i have a tendency to make simple projects super complicated. i'm always amazed when someone knits up something and makes the job look both easy and elegant.
i've been redecorating my apartment over the past few months and it is sorely lacking beautiful, handmade things. both my bed and my sofa need gorgeous cushions! i already have a few 16" x 16" pillow inserts in my closet. i have plenty of scraps and leftover skeins from my book projects. so... here are some leftover bits of Araucania and Patagonia Nature Cotton. i'm going to use it double stranded, so it knits up quickly. the problem is the pattern. do i keep it super simple and knit it in garter stitch? a rib might be nice, too! maybe a broken rib? do i go completely over the top with the mix of pattern and colors? or do i go for straightforward striping in garter stitch? this is where i run into trouble. if it gets too complicated not only will it never get finished, it may not even get started! wish me luck!
since i began knitting, i've watched far more television than i've ever watched in my life. let me be clear about this - i have no shame about it. i'm not one of these people who are so very happy to tell you that they threw out their television years ago and never looked back. nor am i one of these people who go on and on about how bad television is for you. alcohol, chocolate and a few other things that i regularly consume are also really bad for me, yet you won't see me giving those up anytime soon. anyway. i like to watch television while i knit. all of my favorite shows have recently come to an end - the amazing race, american idle (typo intended), thief, 24, grey's anatomy. my question is this - what are you watching now? please don't mention HBO. i'm pissed that i don't have it and i refuse to fork over the gazillion dollars that you pay for premium cable now. any suggestions? i watch a lot of dvds, but because i pay for those i feel like i need to pay a lot more attention than i'm able to give when i'm knitting.
I've just found your site thru a link on Wendy's Knit & Tonic site. I was so excited when I clicked and saw that beautiful black tank. I can't wait for the pattern. Really like you blog and the way you write.
My daughter & I are huge Grey's Anatomy fans and we don't know what to do with outselves until it comes back. I got nothin' for you to watch.

What I usually do during the "off" season is rent series DVDs...like, now that a few of my regulars are over til the fall, I'm going to rent the last season of Six Feet Under and those will keep me going for a couple of weeks (there are like 12 or 13 episodes). I've done that with most of the big HBO series actually. Sopranos is next on my list... Alternately, a good podcasts can be fairly engaging...which can be cool for a change too.
Good luck with the decorating! I'm *very* jealous of your new chair.

allison - i've been watching the final season of Six Feet Under on dvd. so sad and hard to watch because you know it's the final season. i have 1 disc left on my netflix queue!
i'm really happy that i bought the chair. i would have dropped that cash on a pair of shoes with no hesitation! it's ridiculous that it took me years to buy this chair! i remember an episode of Oprah where she and that decorator, Nate, were talking about how absurd it is that people spend so much money on clothing and accessories and then go home to a crummy place. a lightbulb went on for me when i heard that.

so glad to see that I'm not the only one wondering what i'm going to do now that the TV summer hiatus has started! Sunday was my "TV Night:" West Wing, Desperate Housewives (even though I never paid full attention), then Grey's Anatomy. Lately, no one has broadcast any good movies, or at least none that I haven't seen a dozen times. I will watch the movies in my Netflix list and the History Channel. I'm a news junkie so that takes care of the rest of the week.

I haven't developed the Gray's Anatomy habit, for no good reason. Must remedy this. I do love House - Hugh Laurie, wow. And the late-night fake news boys, Stewart and Colbert. Keith Olbermann is growing on me too.
Shobhana, the final episode of Six Feet Under is brilliant. Keep the tissue box handy.

The only time I feel guilty about watching TV is if I'm not knitting. LOL...but I found I cannot under any circumstances knit during Battlestar Galactica...too much is going on. :)
I love the tank! I'm ordering it right now!

I had the same thought about TV/knitting this week! American Idol, Grays Anatomy & House: part of my knitting habit.
I'll be catching up on dvd movies , and wathcing House from the 1st episode, I only got hooked in the last 4 weeks of it.
